Is Your Home Making You Sick? Simple Tips to Bring It Back to Health
When you get the sniffles, a sore throat or a full blown cold or flu, it’s easy to point the finger at someone else for getting you sick. While you may be fairly certain that you contracted the stomach bug from the kid down the street whom you recently babysat, you may want to think twice before placing the blame on another person. In fact, the culprit may just be right under your nose. Your own home may be making you sick. The following tips will help you maintain a healthy home, and therefore, a healthy family.

Pace yourself. Nobody enjoys cleaning, so it’s no surprise that when cleaning day arrives, we try to cram as many chores as we can into as little time as possible. However, when it comes to cleaning up around the home, it’s crucial that you take your time. Next time you pull out the vacuum, push aside the desire to beat your personal vacuuming record, and slow things down instead. If you truly want to eliminate dust and dirt, slow is the way to go.

Clean up. When it comes to maintaining a healthy home, it’s important to remember that no part of your house is out of bounds. Be sure to pay special attention to the kitchen sink, counters and sponges, as these are natural breeding grounds for germs. Instead of simply rinsing these items with water, use an antibacterial cleanser to ensure the germs are being killed. Sponges should also be tossed in the dishwasher periodically.

Flip the switch. The fan in your bathroom does more than just eliminate odors. Next time you’re ready to shower, turn on the fan in order to prevent mold from growing. Who knew the flip of a switch could go so far in keeping your family healthy?
